A Recap of Season One

Fans of the original “iCarly,” which premiered on Nickelodeon from 2007-2012, can remember how much they loved the show. In December 2020, it was announced that iCarly will be returning; however, this time, the show will be available on Paramount+. 

It would be geared more towards adult audiences and the show would have adult themes. 

Our wishes were granted when the series kicked off on Paramount+ on June 12, 2021. The series ran for 13 episodes with the last episode premiering on August 26, 2021. 

Let’s take a recap and discuss the first season, shall we?

First of all, let’s discuss the main cast members, who they are, and what characters they portray. We have the three original cast members who played Carly, Freddie and Spencer (Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor). 

We also have two new cast members who are part of the main cast: Harper played by Laci Mosley, and Millicent played by Jaidyn Triplett. Harper is Carly’s new best friend and roommate, and Millicent is Freddie’s adopted stepdaughter.

Now, let’s not forget the other cast members from the original show that appear in the reboot. Mrs. Benson, who played Freddie’s mother, appears in a few episodes. Nevil, Nora, Griffin, and Principal Franklin also make returns and either play cameos or participate in a main part of an episode’s story. 

Due to Jeanette McCurdy’s absence in the reboot there is talk of her character, Sam Pucket from the original iCarly, throughout the first season. For example, in the very first episode, they mention what Sam has been up to. 

The reboot series however, does not mention Gibby, played by Noah Munck. Munck was not a part of the main cast of the original iCarly series until Season 4. 

According to IMDb, Munck was offered to reprise his role as Gibby but declined. 

  The reboot series is a lot different from the original because it is not a show meant for kids. Rather, it’s a show that is geared more towards adults or fans who grew up watching the show, like I did.

Not only does the show have that adult-like atmosphere, which you can find in shows like “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” and even shows like “The Simpsons,” the show also has themes that underscore the adult atmosphere.

Some adult themes the reboot explores are themes or references to sex, cursing, and even alcohol (beer), which Spencer mentions in the trailer.

According to theblast.com, “The original program was based on the everyday situations kids were going through. Now that they aren’t kids anymore, the characters have grown-up issues, meaning that they have to deal with everyday situations that grownups go through as they did as kids when they went through kid situations.”

In the original, there was a lot of mention of Creddie and Seddie, which can insinuate romantic interests between Carly and Freddie (Creddie) and since Sam isn’t in the picture anymore as far as being in the show, there will be lots of Creddie moments waiting to happen!

I can think of one example when this takes place. In the episode “iTake a Girls’ Trip” Carly and Harper plan to take a girls’ trip to a hotel but plans fail when Harper’s cousin comes and crashes at her place. Eventually Freddie steps in and offers to go on the trip with Carly. Anyways, as the episode progresses, they end up in a love suite and end up getting into bed to feel what it’s like. 

By far, the new iCarly series is absolutely brilliant! You get to see a more mature side of Carly, Freddie and Spencer. Go see for yourself on Paramount+. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
