“Project Hail Mary” is a film based on the 2021 Science fiction novel of the same name written by Andy Weir. The movie is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and stars Ryan Gosling.
“Project Hail Mary” is nothing short of magical. It’s easily one of the best movies of the year so far and in my opinion one of the best sci-fi movies that I have ever seen. I haven’t been able get it off my mind about it ever since I left the theater.
This was hands down Ryan Goslings best performance of his entire career. He was charming, funny, and lovable all around. His performance really moved me, there were so many moments where I would just uncontrollably sob. I honestly believe this is an Oscar worthy performance and wouldn’t be surprised if he gets nominated for best actor next year. Gosling in this movie really proved that he is one of the best actors of our generation. James Ortiz, who voices the alien Rocky was great as well. Him and Gosling had great chemistry together which made some really emotional scenes.
This movie was visually stunning, especially the sci-fi elements. I was in awe the entire time as I watched the movie, it was beautiful. Between the film being on the big screen, especially in IMAX, it made me feel so alive. I would even go as far as to say it’s on par with films like “Interstellar,” which I consider to be the greatest sci-fi movie of all time. The way this movie was shot was fantastic and the score just elevated me.
I’ve never read the book the movie was based on but from what I have heard, the general consensus is that it is definitely a faithful adaptation of the source material, which is a great thing. And even if it wasn’t, it was still a fantastic movie nonetheless.
My only nitpick with the film is it was pretty long and it dragged on a bit. There were moments when I thought the movie was gonna end but it just continued, but it didn’t bother me too much. Regardless the positives with this film outweighed the negative by a landslide.
Overall this movie was just wonderful. I genuinely believe this is an Oscar worthy film and it deserves all the praise it has received. This was a jaw dropping experience that I truly will never forget.
