After an impressive career with the CSI Dolphins, Will Fonseca played his last game in a Dolphin uniform at the NABC All-Star Game.

Starting senior forward, Will Fonseca, represented CSI in the East Region at the annual NABC Reese’s 2016 NCAA Division III All-Star Game in Salem, Virginia.

“It was a great experience,” said Fonseca during a postgame interview. “I had a great time.”

With the appearance, Will Fonseca becomes just the second player in CSI’s basketball program history to represent the Dolphins at an All-Star game.

The only other player with the honor of being named an All-Star is the team’s current assistant coach Jordan Young. Young represented CSI during the 2012 season as a Senior, when he averaged 16.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Nicknamed “The Fonz,” the six foot five inch senior joined the team during the 2012-2013 season and had an immediate impact. The season before he joined the team, the Dolphins had their best record in school history.

CSI put together a 28-3 record during the 2011-2012 season and captured a CUNYAC Championship over Medgar Evers with a 82-81 victory.

During his first season, Fonseca averaged 13.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while playing only 19.3 minutes per game.

This season Fonseca lead his team in minutes, points and rebounds. He averaged 23.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 33.0 minutes per game. Fonseca has been a double-double machine for the Dolphins posting 15 of them this season.

With 1,702 career points, Will Fonseca is ranked fourth all-time among three-year players in Division III College and also set a school record for points last season. He finished with 608 this season.

As the back-to-back CUNYAC Player of the Year, Fonseca helped his team finish with an 18-8 record this season. Unfortunately, he and his teammates would ultimately come up short in the postseason after losing 78-69  to Brooklyn College.

The Dolphins were only down a point going into the second half of the game, but the Bulldogs’ offense was too much for the Dolphins in the second half.

The All-Star showcase was won by the East Region, 129-120, and was an unforgettable experience for the senior forward.

While the game might of been an All-Star exhibition Fonseca managed to score 15 points, while grabbing five rebounds.

Fans in attendance were treated to countless flashy dunks and passes during the exhibition event. Players made their way up to Salem, Massachusetts a few nights before the game and where they had time to meet one another and the coaches.

The selections for the all-stars are made by coaches from all across the country and is an extensive selection process.

Fonseca, was excited to be selected to the team and explained he was fortunate for the opportunity.

“It’s surreal at this point,” said Fonseca.  “It’s such a blessing to be acknowledged by so many coaches across the country. I know so many people who would love to be in this position, so I am just trying to take it all in and perform at a high level whenever I am out there.”

Fonseca will go down as one of the most decorated basketball players in CSI’s history. He holds numerous records for the Dolphins and was dominant player over his three seasons with the team.

He has been a key component to the Dolphins’ success over the past few seasons and has the numbers to prove it.

“In the end, being a part of such a talented group of people just shows how far I’ve come,” said Fonseca.  “It’s truly been a blessing and I loved every minute.”
