Being stuck inside doesn’t have to be all that bad…especially when you have TikTok. With the ever growing boredom boom happening, TikTok is at the forefront of viral challenges, dance-offs, and wholesome family content.

“TikTok is not just a collection of videos, it’s truly a community where people get to be innovative and authentic,” according to Tik Tok’s Head of User and Product Operations Seth Melnick during a Zoom workshop I had the privilege of attending.

All over the internet, TikTok trends are spreading like wildfire. It first began with just lip-syncing, but now it’s filled with dancing, cooking, singing, editing, fitness, beauty, DIY’s, and highlighting moments with the ones we love.

Some of the most wholesome trends have resulted from families living in quarantine together. One of my favorites is the “Themed Dinner Nights.” This trend allows families to come together and dress up for a fun dinner together. Some of the most creative themes have been “Dressing like Dad”, “80’s themed”, “Kardashian Night”, and “Disney Day.”

Another idea that has brought families and friends even closer on TikTok is “Niche Powerpoint Presentations.” You might be thinking, what does that even mean?

Well here are some examples: “How to Bargain like a Karen,” “People as Fonts,” “Ranking the Hottest Cartoon Characters,” and so on. This is an opportunity for your family to gather in the living room, or to get all your friends on Zoom, and have an enjoyable night of learning.

While TikTok is clearly known for its outlandish content, this app enables people with choreography, fitness, and art skills to truly shine and spread their talents.

When first logging on to your for-you page, the odds are very high of you encountering a dance video. Some of the biggest dance trends during this quarantine were the “Supalonely” dance challenge started by Zoi Lerma (@zoifishh) and the iconic “Savage” dance challenge created by Keara Wilson (@keke.janajah).

The best part about this is that you can teach your loved ones the dances and record the experience, or even create your own dance that has an equal chance to go viral. I personally have enjoyed leaving my comfort zone and learning different choreography.

In addition, health and fitness content is, to say the least, booming. With gyms closed and people wanting to stay healthy and fit, TikTokers have been creating fun workout routines and challenges for everyone to try.

Search up the #PlankChallenge, Cupid Shuffle Ab challenge, and Drake’s Toosie Slide workout if you’re willing to break a sweat. Whether or not you’re into fitness, it’s fun to just watch others attempt these challenges.

Artists have also taken over the app with their talents, including ideas such as DIY tie-dye outfits, art tutorials, and makeup challenges.

One of my favorite makeup trends is the #DontRushChallenge also known as the makeup brush challenge. Many creators have taken this opportunity stuck at home to put on their best outfits, do their hair up nice, and showcase their makeup talents. These videos usually have fun transitions with one friend throwing a makeup brush to one another, and it is so wonderful to see people admiring each other’s beauty!

Lastly, TikTok has utilized it’s platform to thank the healthcare and essential workers over the last few months. Specifically, the #HealthHeroes tag highlights content created by all different healthcare workers and their stories. Some are seen dancing with their coworkers in full PPE, and others are at home using their time to inform others on how to stay safe.

Ultimately, TikTok has become more than just a video sharing platform, it has become a community. During this challenging time, these fun video ideas remind us that we are all experiencing the same thing, and are all in this together.
