Many transfers have been done over the summer that left clubs excited and some disappointed

The Transfer Window for football clubs closed on Monday, October 5th. Although many clubs did sign a numerous number of players this summer, many of these purchases were loans due to the pandemic affecting the club’s budget cuts and lost revenue.
This summer transfer window started in late July which was different from previous years because it usually starts in June and ends within the last few days of August. Even when there were delays from the season and problems with budgets, some top clubs bought some great players to improve their teams while others missed out on their targets or didn’t sign enough players to improve for the next season.
Chelsea FC had one of the best transfers this summer after spending over 200 million pounds on five new players, including German internationals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner. Both players were wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the world, but Chelsea managed to get both of them which can help their chances to do well this season in the Premier League.
They also made two free transfers which included defenders’ Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.
Some of the big transfers that happened this summer included Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich to Liverpool FC, Luis Suarez from FC Barcelona to Atletico Madrid, and Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal FC. These transfers were one of the most popular deals that had fans excited about their outcomes in their respective teams.
Liverpool getting Thiago would improve their midfield after Thiago had a great season with Bayern Munich and could make the English club one of the strongest squads in Europe. Luis Suarez to Atletico Madrid was a great move for Atletico because over the past few years, they have been particularly looking for a striker to get them a lot of goals.
Suárez is a proven goalscorer with FC Barcelona and left Barcelona as a club legend. Now 33, Suarez`s experience would benefit the Atlético team as they look for some trophies this season.
Thomas Partey to Arsenal happened on Deadline Day and was a huge deal for Arsenal since they have been trying to sign him the whole summer. Arsenal is a big club that has been struggling the past few years to be on top and now they are looking to get back to where they need to be.
Some clubs who did not have a good window were likes of FC Barcelona and Manchester United. FC Barcelona had a very intense summer when the news came out that their star player and future club legend Lionel Messi wanted to leave the club.
This was because the future of Barca was uncertain and Messi didn’t like how Barca was preparing for the next generation of players. They sold one of their top players, Luis Suarez to a rival club, sold 23-year-old Arthur Melo to Juventus, and brought in 30-year-old Miralem Pjanic.
The deal made no sense since Melo is much younger than Pjanic and had a bright future at Barca. Barca did sign a young new right-back, Sergiño Dest, who is one of the first Americans to play for FC Barcelona.
Manchester United had a terrible transfer window after not being able to sign their desired targets. United wanted to sign a new center-back but they couldn’t sign anyone for that position as well.
United wanted a left-back but chose Alex Telles from FC Porto because he was a cheaper option rather than Sergio Reguilon, who signed for Tottenham Hotspurs. The biggest disappointment was not signing Jadon Sancho who plays as a right-winger, a position that Manchester United lacks.
Sancho was linked with United throughout the whole summer and a deal was close to being completed but United did not want to pay the 120 million pounds that Sancho’s team Borussia Dortmund demanded. Only 20 years old, Sancho would have been a huge upgrade to the United team who are looking for world-class players like him.
Instead, the English club decided to sign 33-year-old Edison Cavani, who, although plays as a striker, has not played a lot of football this year. He came in as a free agent, but his agent demanded a 10-million-pound fee for their services.
Overall, this summer transfer window was still exciting due to the fact that in past years, there was a lot of uncertainty with how teams would upgrade their squads for the new season. This window has seen a lot of transfers because of the number of consecutive games each team will play due to the tight schedules caused by COVID.
Teams need a lot of players in case some players get infected, so they don’t want to run out of players to choose from. Hopefully, this season is still safe enough to continue so we can enjoy a new season of football.
