On September 10th, 2024, the presidential debate between Vice President Harris and Former President Donald Trump was hosted by ABC News and moderated by Lindsey Davis and David Muir. Both candidates faced off in a heated debate that had the left the entire country with mixed emotions, of what they should expect to see this November.
A majority of discussion throughout each segment surrounded not the plans and intentions of what is to be expected from each candidate but more or less how unfit the other candidate was for the position of presidential election.
Some key moments of the debate surrounded the plans and intentions of each candidate around Immigration and the migrant crisis, Trumps supposed affiliation to the 2025 plan, the Ukraine War, as well as the Israel-Palestine conflict.
During their segment on Immigration, Trump mentions the migrant crisis, and targets illegal aliens as the sole cause for these issues addressed by Kamala Harris; whose issues being human and drug trafficking.
Since immigration plays such a key role in most of the key swing states this election, The main focus of this conversation surrounded trumps decision to “Kill the bill“. VP Harris addressed the border bill created by the Biden administration that was quickly blocked by the Republicans house.
Meanwhile the purpose of the bill was to help ease the increasingly uncontrollable border crisis that was going on by adding over 1500 more board patrol officers. this is also the point where trumps mentioned his remarks on Haitians immigrants being forced to eat their dog’s cat’s and other pets in spring fiend, Ohio, this would eventually become a trademark meme and ongoing joke towards trump by anti-trump supporters.
When they began to discuss the Russia-Ukraine War segment, Donald Trump makes it clear that settling this way would be his first priority once he is elected for president. In response Harris describes how relived NATO allies are that Trump is no longer in power, due to his friendship with Kim Jong Un and president Vladamir Putain. Harris would then make reference to Trump sending love letters to Kim Jong Un, due to his very strong ties with both Russia and North Korea.
Towards the end of this segment came the conversation around the Israel-Hamas War in the Middle East. Harris began with her stance on Israel’s right to defend itself when attacked, as she mentioned the Ceasefire deal as well as the hostages that had been freed.
Trump would go on to imply that the Middle East conflict would in fact worsen under her control. Most viewers have mixed opinions on this prediction; many of them being Arab American and democratic voters who could have a very influential effect on Harris’ chances of election. Swing states such as Michigan and Minnesota have a high Arab American population that could very much become the deciders of who will be taking over the oval office in in November.
