T.J. Tibbs, who is the dynamic force and heart behind the CSI sports camps on campus, embodies the true spirit of mentorship that fully transcends on and off the basketball court. As a former standout player and now a dedicated coach, Tibbs has seen firsthand how sports can transform lives. For Tibbs, being a coach and trainer is not just about winning games but about shaping the next generation of children.
“We are your generations eyes so I just try to be the person I wish I had along the way,” Tibbs said.
Through his camps, Tibbs aims to instill in young athletes the values of teamwork, discipline, and respect, all life lessons that will serve them well both on and off the court. Parents and kids respect his ability to connect with young athletes on a personal level, imparting life lessons that extend far beyond the basketball court.
Tibbs’ impact reaches children as young as five, with camps designed to be inclusive regardless of age or skill level. These camps cater to a wide range of ages and skill levels, from 5-13 year olds in summer day camps to high school students in after-hours programs that way no matter the schedule there is time for everyone.

Depending on your sport, age, and level there are programs and camps available to help improve. His promise to parents is not just about trophies or points scored, but about guiding the young athletes toward responsible adulthood.
“I judge my success based on the work being shown off the court,” Tibbs said. “If at a reunion in 10 years a player comes back to speak to me I know I’ve done my job”
While coaching right now is his primary focus, Tibbs is not afraid to explore other avenues that align with his morals and his love for teaching the younger generation.
“I’m open to anything that can support my family,” Tibbs said.
This dedication to providing for his loved ones at home is a driving force in his life, one that he hopes to instill in his young athletes.
One of Tibbs’ former athletes Alexa Zambino worked with him for years and had many great things to say.
“Tibbs is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet” she said. “He really cares about his athletes you can tell.”
This approach to coaching has made Tibbs a beloved figure at CSI and beyond.
Tibbs’ role extends beyond coaching. He assists with facility rentals for outside groups, generating funds for scholarships. This approach ensures that the sports program at CSI remains accessible and beneficial to the broader community.
As Tibbs continues to shape young lives through basketball, his vision remains clear. He emphasizes perseverance and trust in life’s journey to his players. Through his unwavering dedication, Tibbs is not just creating better athletes he’s cultivating a generation poised for success and fulfillment both on and off the court.
“I knew I was gonna be exactly where I’m at, no matter how bumpy it was” Tibbs said.
