Spring Break 2026 Has Been Cancelled

CSI takes back spring break to make up for lost time from prior winter snow storms.

In a tough last minute decision by CSI, students will not get a spring break this year and will continue with regularly scheduled classes.

After Staten Island was slammed with so much snow this past winter that caused classes to be cancelled or held online, this seemed to be the best way to have students catch up. This decision was not an easy one to make and of course was one faced with backlash by professors who wanted this break just as much as the students, but still, the school persisted.

Since this was such a last minute call, any students who miss class today, Wednesday April 1st, will not have the absence count against them, but any student who misses any scheduled classes from April 2 to April 9 will have their absence count as a double absence. The school felt this would make students more likely to show up during break rather than ignore the message and continue with their own spring break. CSI feels this is just a sacrifice students and professors need to make. Of course the ones that made this decision don’t have to make the sacrifice, they will still be on break since they “don’t have work to make up like students do.”

To try and make the whole situation better and put a smile on everyone’s face, the school will host a pizza party and ice cream social this week. Tomorrow, April 2, and Friday, April 3,out on the great lawn in front of 1P, there will be tents and tables set up for the festivities. On Thursday, there will be a pizza party and it will include a variety of pizza and soda options from the school’s cafeteria. The ice cream social on Friday will take place in the same area and will have countless flavor and topping options provided by the local Carvel. While the school knows it won’t heal all wounds of spring break being cancelled, they hope that it will lessen the blow a little bit.

The school did want to put out one last message about the whole situation and that is, APRIL FOOLS!

The Banner and CSI hope everyone enjoys their much needed spring break.
