The New York Mets and New York Yankees clash in the newest installment of the Subway Series from May 15th- May 17th.
So far this year, each team’s seasons tell a completely different story in terms of success. The Yankees currently have the best record in the American League, with a record of 23 wins and 11 losses as of May 3rd. They’re also riding an 8-2 record in their last ten games.

The impressive start to the season can be attributed to key players on both sides of the ball. 3 time MVP Aaron Judge is continuing his hall of fame by posting 13 home runs, which is tied for most in the league with Chicago White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami. Accompanying Aaron Judge in success is Yankees first baseman Ben Rice, who is among the league leaders in almost every single offensive category, gearing him for a run at the MVP award.
However it’s the pitching that has drastically helped the Yankees this year. Cam Schlittler, the Yankees young pitching prospect, has been lights out when pitching posting a 1.51 ERA currently, with a .74 WHIP. Max Fried is also continuing to be the Ace of the staff by pitching to a 2.39 ERA with a .89 WHIP.
The Yankees took a more relaxed approach this offseason by running it back with a similar roster to last year, re-signing Cody Bellinger to a 5 year 162.5 million dollar contract. They also went after depth by acquiring left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers to bolster the starting rotation, while also going after various bench pieces to solidify the rest of the roster.

Yankees fan and CSI student Matthew Armento is excited for the moments that come with this series.
“I’m looking forward to close games and big moments,” said Armento. “You just know something crazy is going to happen.”
The Mets however aren’t nearly having the same amount of success as they have an MLB worst 11 wins and 21 losses. Their last ten games are 4-6 so they have picked it up recently.
This comes after having an expensive spending spree this offseason acquiring Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette, Chicago White Sox Center Fielder Luis Robert Jr. and Milwaukee Brewers Ace starting pitcher Freddy Peralta.
The Subway Series has never felt more personal due to Juan Soto, who helped the Yankees reach the World Series in 2024, signed to a record breaking 15 year 765 million dollar deal, shattering the hearts of Yankees fans.
However not all Mets fans are thrilled about the contract given to Soto. One Mets fan who isn’t a fan of it is CSI student Marco DeVincenzi.
“It was a huge waste of money,” said DeVincenzi. “We could have spent that building a playoff team instead of getting a playoff player.”
Another Mets fan who is looking forward to this year’s NYC battle is CSI sophomore Justin Presscott.
“To me, it’s like the two sides of New York City are in a big fight, and whoever wins is crowned the best team in New York until they play again,” said Presscott. “The winning team gains bragging rights.”
Whether you’re watching the games at home, in the stands, or out with a group of people at a local bar, the Subway Series offers a playoff type atmosphere right in the middle of the season. For some however, it’s all or nothing.

“To me, it means I get to watch my team either completely blow it, or sweep the series,” said DeVincenzi. “I expect at least one win although the Mets aren’t too good right now”
