The Flavor of the Season Makes for a Great Look for a Night Out

Pumpkin, Spice, and Everything Nice!

by Brielle Sparacino

As is indicated by the massive amount of leaves falling off of the trees, Autumn is rapidly approaching. And when people hear that word, they instantly think of chilly weather and cozy sweaters.

When women hear that word, however, they think: “Pumpkin Spice-scented everything!”

Whether it’s the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks or a Pumpkin Spice candle from Yankee Candle, the scent is highly addictive and a must-have for the season in any form.

This time around, inspired by this fantastic fragrance, a Pumpkin Spice makeup look has been created. The best part? Every product that features the scent is under twenty dollars.

To prime your face, check out e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Studio Blemish Control Primer ($6). The green tint in the primer helps cancel any redness in your face, especially the redness from unexpected blemishes. After priming your face, try the Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer ($14).

You should use a concealer that complements your skin’s natural undertones to conceal your under-eye area as well as any blemishes, including scars from old ones. Sephora’s newest line of liquid concealers are amazing. They give noticeable coverage but don’t feel heavy on your skin.

After using the foundation of your choice, use e.l.f. Studio High Definition Setting Powder ($6) to set your foundation and the concealer under your eyes. This ensures that the makeup will not settle into any fine lines you may have around your eyes.

Next, you may want to use a bronzer to warm your face up a bit. NYC Sun ‘n Bronze Bronzing Powder ($5) is a great buy, guaranteeing you a sun-kissed glow even if the sun isn’t out as often asit was during the summer. This powder also works for contouring your face, although that doesn’t have to be a necessary step in your personal makeup routine.

After using your bronzer, you can add a blush and a touch of highlighter to bring some color back into your cheeks, and e.l.f. Studio Blush ($3) combined with L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator ($11) are a perfect pair.

While the opacity of the blush promises a natural flush (if it’s used sparingly), the subtle shimmer in the liquid illuminator adds a lovely dewy finish to skin.

For the Pumpkin Spice-inspired eye look, prime your eyes with e.l.f. Studio Eyeshadow Primer ($3) and pick up the Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Copper Peach ($12). This adorably packaged palette is full of warm neutrals and excellent highlight shades that are perfect for the look.

Begin by taking the matte-brown shade in the palette and, using a fluffy crease brush, disperse the shadow on the outer corner of your eye and work your way inward to the middle of your eye. Remember to blend the shadow; that way, you won’t have any harsh lines.

Next, use a flat shadow brush to pick up some of the shimmery, rust-colored shadow and pat a bit onto the middle of your eye. Make sure to use the same fluffy crease brush from earlier to blend the matte-brown and rust-colored shades where they meet to create the ombré effect you want.

After you finish this step, put some of the light-brown shadow (which is the first shade in the palette if viewed from left-to-right) on the unused side of the flat shadow brush and dab a bit on the innermost part of your eye.

Again, you want to blend the colors a bit where they meet so there are no noticeably harsh lines. Once these steps are completed, use your ring finger to pick up a bit of the peach shadow and the soft pink shadow and dab the combination of colors in the inner corner of your eye, right near your tear duct.

By doing this, you’ll brighten up your eyes and really make them pop, no matter what your natural eye color is. The lightest shadow, located on the farthest end of the eye palette, is light enough that it can be placed on the brow bone to act as your highlight shade without looking too bold.

Finally, finish off your entire look with a great mascara, such as NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara ($5), and a brown liquid liner like the Sonia Kashuk Liquid Line Precision Liner ($8).

This look, paired with the bold brows that are now back in style, are sure to be a hit with any outfit and at any function, whether you’re wearing it to school or formal events. Make sure to check out all of the products mentioned, because they are definitely worth a second glance.
