The Most Anticipated Movies for the Remainder of 2018

This year has been an exciting movie year with “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Black Panther”, “Incredibles 2” and many other movies entertaining audiences and becoming box office successes.
With the year winding down, there are numerous films coming out in November and December that are expected to entertain audiences and make a profit.
Coming out November 2 is “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston. It stars Keira Knightly, Mackenzie Foy, Morgan Freeman, Matthew MacFayden and Helen Mirren. This will be Disney’s live-action take on the classic “Nutcracker” tale.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” will also be released November 2. It is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Rami Malek as Queen singer, Freddie Mercury. This will be a biography about Mercury’s attempt at a solo career, coming back to Queen and dealing with AIDS.
The animated movie “The Grinch”, will be released November 9. This new film adaption of the classic Dr. Seuss book “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”, will have Benedict Cumberbatch voicing the Grinch. “The Grinch” shows how the cold hearted lead character tries to ruin Christmas for the people of Whoville.
On November 16, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”, the next movie in the “Harry Potter” spinoff series, will be released. The film is directed by David Yates, known for directing other “Harry Potter” films.
It stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as a younger Albus Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as the dark wizard Grindelwald. “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will have Grindelwald escape custody to take over the Wizarding World and Dumbledore and Scamander try to stop him.
Disney’s animated movie “Ralph Breaks the Internet”, the sequel to “Wreck-It Ralph”, comes out November 21, with John C. Reily and Sarah Silverman reprising their roles as Ralph and Vanellope. “Ralph Breaks the Internet” takes place six years after the first film.
Ralph and Vanellope will be traveling through the internet going to different websites. The film will contain guest appearances from popular Disney princesses.
Also coming out November 21 is “Creed II”, the sequel to the “Rocky” spinoff “Creed”. It is directed by Steven Caple Jr. with Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone reprising their roles as Adonis Creed and Rocky Balboa.
In this film, Adonis Creed will take on Viktor Drago, the son of “Rocky IV”; antagonist Ivan Drago once again played by Dolph Lundgren.
On December 14, the film adaption of the novel “Mortal Engines” will be released. It will be directed by “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson and stars Hugo Weaving, Stephen Lang, Robert Sheehan, Hera Hilmar, and Frankie Adams. Similar to the novel, Hester Shaw, scarred and seeking revenge, takes on mobile predator cities based on real-life cities like London in a post-apocalyptic world.
“Mary Poppins Returns” will be released December 19. It is directed by Rob Marshall who directed “Chicago”. The film stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, with Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer playing Michael and Jane Banks.
Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert and Mr. Dawes Sr. in the original “Mary Poppins” is returning, but as Mr. Dawes Jr. “Mary Poppins Returns” will show the Banks kids from “Mary Poppins” as adults, with Michael Banks as a father and Mary Poppins returning to help their family.
From the “DC Extended Universe” is “Aquaman”, directed by James Wan, known for directing “The Conjuring”. The film will be released on December 21 and stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, who portrayed him in last years film “Justice League”.
The film takes place after “Justice League”, centering on the film’s protagonist Aquaman, who is half human and half Atlantean. He is learning how to be the king of Atlantis while preventing a war his half-brother Orm is trying to start with the surface world and taking down an assassin called the Black Manta.
On the same day, “Bumblebee” will be released, centering around the fan-favorite Autobot from the “Transformers” franchise. The movie is directed by Travis Knight, known for directing the 2016 stop-motion film “Kubo and the Two Strings.” “Bumblebee” stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena.
The film will take place in the 1980s before “Transformers” with Bumblebee trying to protect Earth while escaping Sector 7 as he tries to avoid the Decepticons hunting him down. The film will show the Transformers in their classic 1980s designs from the 1984 cartoon.
On Christmas, “Vice” will be released, showing Dick Cheney’s political rise and how powerful of a Vice President he was. It is directed by Adam Mckay and stars Christian Bale as former Vice President Dick Cheney, Amy Adams as former Second Lady Lynne Cheney, and Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush.
With all of these anticipated movies coming out within the next couple of months, 2018 will continue to keep us entertained.
