After the Ballon d`Or ceremony in 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, France Football returned to host the ceremony where they prize the best player in the world.

Many fans praised Robert Lewandowski performances in the past two seasons and believed he would’ve won in 2020 and has a big chance this year as well. Lionel Messi is arguably one the best players ever and is always in contentions where he provides many goals and assists for his teams. It was a tough call for fans to predict who the winner for 2021 would be.

Many other players had a great 2020-2021 season like Karim Benzema, Mohammed Salah, Jorginho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The start of the new season has been very impressive from the likes of Salah and Benzema but throughout the course of two seasons, the result reflected them being in the top 10 positions.

10th position was for Gianluigi Donnarumma after a great season for AC Milan and his Euro 2020 performances with Italy. He won the Euros with Italy and saved the game winning penalty to clinch the title.

9th position was given for Kylian Mbappe. He didn’t win any major trophies in the season but registered 42 goals with 11 assists in 47 games.

Manchester City`s Kevin De Bruyne is in the 8th position after helping City win another Premier League title and helping them reach their first-ever Champions League final. He scored ten goals and had 18 assists in all competitions for Man City.

In 7th place, Mohammed Salah ranks in the list with 31 goals and seven assists in the 2020/2021 season. He already has 20 goals in all competitions this season and can potentially be ranked higher in next year’s Ballon d`Or ceremony.

After an excellent individual season, Cristiano Ronaldo finished in 6th place but an abysmal season from his former club, Juventus. Besides the Italian team’s poor form, Ronaldo scored 36 goals and gave five assists. At the age of 36, he is still going strong and a world-class player. He is currently on 12 goals for Manchester United and doesn’t look to slow down any progress.

N`Golo Kante took 5th place after some impressive performances in the Champions League with Chelsea. He was a vital part of the London side progression to Champions League glory. He is essential for games against Real Madrid and in the Champions League final against Man City.

4th place was given for Karim Benzema. Benzema had a great season with Real Madrid last year and is continuing his top form in the new season. He had 30 goals and 12 assists in 46 games last year. He currently has 17 goals and 12 assists, and it hasn’t even been half the season yet.

3rd place was given to Jorginho. It was a shock for many because many didn’t expect him to perform the way he did the past year. He was key to winning many trophies last year, including the Champions League, the Euros, and the Super Cup.

Many football fans were furious with this decision as Lewandowski had a season worthy of a Ballon d`Or trophy. He won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and scored an outstanding 48 goals in 40 games! He also gave 13 assists, which makes 61 goal contributions in 40 games! 2nd place was for Lewandowski.

Lionel Messi makes more history as he wins the Ballon d`Or trophy for the seventh time. Messi also had a worthy Ballon d`Or season with 38 goals and 18 assists to his name in a total of 48 games. He also helped Argentina win the Copa America in the summer of 2021.

The seventh Ballon d`Or trophy for Messi is historic, and it reminds many football fans that Messi is one of the greatest ever to play the beautiful game.
