As members of the Advisory Board for the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), we want to congratulate you on your work completed during the Spring semester. It’s been a busy year—at CSI and worldwide!
We’d like to take the opportunity to remind you of the exciting, dynamic, and important possibilities CGE offers. Engaging yourself on the world stage has never been more critical. As part of your academic career at CSI, traveling to such places as France, England, Italy, Morocco, China, Japan, Ecuador, and many other locations available to you widens your worldview and perspectives not only on other nations. More importantly, traveling and studying abroad opens new ways to think of your life in the United States.
Moreover, CGE is directly involved in hosting international students at CSI. Many of you may have encountered visiting students and faculty on campus. In sharing their experiences with us, our campus continues to broaden its intellectual and cultural vibrancy. Among the many who have joined the CSI community, 15 students from EICAR (The International Film and Television School in Paris) will partake in a two-week summer program where they will take classes and attend masterclasses with media-industry professionals alongside CSI students from the Department of Media Culture.
Programs such as this are at the heart of CGE’s mission to enhance the internationalization of academic life at CSI and foster an awareness of the interdependence of nations, the value of diversity, and the importance of international understanding.
More than ever, the Center for Global Engagement holds a pivotal place at the College of Staten Island. It is the doorway to broadening our capacity to ‘think outside the box,’ to explore unanticipated ideas, to create works of art, and to necessarily understand the complex and varied ways we can make change in the world.
