Are CSI’s garbage cans really that far away for students?

Putting your hand under a desk at CSI may cause you a lot of trouble. Next thing you know, you have sticky fingers, along with lots of germs.
I have made the unfortunate mistake many times of running my hand beneath the desk in a classroom. You instantly feel a sense of a rubbery, chewed up piece of gum that has been there for who knows how long.
Why do students feel the need to use the bottom of the desk for their gum dump?
As students, we are hesitant to put our fingers under desks, because we know what it will lead to. No matter what building, whether it is a building on the north or south side of CSI, you are very likely to have gum under the desks you are sitting in. It seems to be a habit for students to put their hands under the desks, which is why we are even aware of this issue.
Janitors, we have them and we tend to see them, especially if you were to have a night class. Yes, they do an amazing job with the garbage and cleaning, but why nothing with the gum under the desks, is that too much of an ask? I say, it’s gotten to the point where it will take countless hours to even get all the gum from one building out.
As a student myself, I don’t see much of an issue of getting up to throw a piece of gum away, and surely the Professor wouldn’t mind. To be sure, it is easier to just put it under the desk since you are already sitting down and don’t have to get up. But why would you want others potentially touching your gum and you touching theirs.
Let’s make a change here at CSI.
