Trump Administration Fights to Abolish All Congestion Tolls

Citizens can hold onto hope as the war continues against the extra pricing to enter Manhattan.

The Trump administration answered the prayers of NYC as they prepare to go to court in the demolishing of the congestion tolls.

On February 19th, the Trump administration declared the order to rid the newly added toll as citizens drove into south of 60th street. The battle was between the Trump administration and Governor Kathy Hochul.

The toll was a one time daily fee of $9 that was added on top of the toll of the Holland Tunnel which was an estimate of $18. The goal behind the fees was to help decrease the everyday traffic of Manhattan. The perspectives that were not taken into consideration were the middle class citizens with a long journey from home that left them with the misfortune of needing to drive to work.

As the administration climbs for success in the blocked tolls, Hochul has her own requests. According to NBC News, Hochul tweeted, “The cameras are staying on” with the indication of the photos that are taken of each car that passed the tolls. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) was ordered to prepare for the cancelled fees by March 21, 2025.

The added charges began early this year. Since then, studies have shown the decrease in vehicle volume and traffic throughout the city. While that goal was reached, the tolls have been a headache for others. Small business owners and employees of “9-5”s needed to make accommodations to the new change, as well as a deposit with a couple of extra bucks to work.

  1. It’s ridiculous to work 6 days a week and we live so far away, now they want to charge us.

We must support each other and go on strike together against the ridiculous things they are doing to citizens and residents.
