Season two of Netflix’s Wednesday was released in two parts, with the  first part on August sixth and the second on September third.

This review may contain some spoilers!

The season starts with Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, recounting her summer where she hunted down a serial killer. She used her psychic ability to track him down, but what she did not realize is there was a price to the overuse of her ability.

This year, Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, started his first year at Nevermore with his recently discovered powers of electricity, similar to his Uncle Fester. I liked that Pugsley started school with Wednesday, but I wish we had more scenes with them together. Especially because Pugsley did not have much luck making friends despite his roommate being Eugene, played by Moosa Mostafa. I do like that they became friends by the end of the season.

New characters were introduced this season, including Principal Dort, played by Steve Buscemi, Agnes, played by Evie Templeton, and Isadora Capri, played by Billie Piper.

Principal Dort was the replacement of the late Larissa Weems, who was played by Gweondoline Christie. He played a cheerful and optimistic character whose goal was to keep school spirit alive and prevent a repeat of what happened in the previous year. However, he had some secrets and was not as innocent as he seemed, which gets foreshadowed in part two when it’s revealed he was not in the approved list of replacements after Weems died.

Capri is the new music teacher at Nevermore and she is a cool addition to the characters. She tried to recruit Wednesday to join the orchestra, and because Capri is a werewolf like Enid, who is played by Emma Meyers, she was able to truly be there for her. I liked her character, but I was suspicious of whether she would just be a harmless new teacher or someone with ulterior motives.

Agnes is an admirer of Wednesday who can turn invisible. Wednesday used this to her advantage and had Agnes find out information for her in her mission to prevent her vision of Enid’s death. This new partnership did drive a wedge between Wednesday and Enid’s friendship that seemed to take a pivotal turn at the end of the last season. I was not sure how I felt about Agnes, but towards the end, I saw she was just a girl who wanted to fit in and have friends, which she finds with Wednesday and Enid.

Enid questioned whether Wednesday even wanted to be her friend, but Wednesday was doing all this for her in the end. I do wish we saw more of their friendship in this season in regards to how the last season ended when Wednesday hugged her, showing how much Enid truly means to her. I did not like how the season portrayed Enid’s character in the beginning where she started going out with someone else and did not tell Ajax. I do like that Enid voices that she was not the same person she was when they went out and that she is just changing.

We do see a shift in the second episode of part two when they switched bodies and learned how to walk in each other’s shoes. Wednesday realized how strong and resilient Enid truly is and that she should not have underestimated her. Enid also found out something big about herself which came to fruition at the end when she saved Wednesday, similar to the end of season one. I love their friendship and how even if Wednesday did not know how to properly show it, she does care for Enid.

I wish we saw more development of the relationship between Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta Jones, and Wednesday. Throughout the season, there was a lot of tension and mistrust between the mother and daughter duo, which I hoped would get resolved by the end. The ending scene was a definite turning point in their relationship though! In addition, I  wish we could have seen more family scenes with the whole Addams family such as home life or just family bonding.

The relationship between Wednesday and Tyler is a very complicated one. Tyler mentioned how Wednesday fell in love with the monster in him, and even if she tried to deny it, we know those feelings do not simply go away. The ending scene to part one does show how Tyler felt about her when he threw her out a window!

There were so many other plot twists in this season such as a mysterious patient that was presumed dead who happened  to be someone from Morticia and Gomez’s past. Or a zombie Pugsley accidentally brought back to life was not as random as he thought. There were so many other plot points that I wished were explored more, but got a bid condensed given we only had eight episodes. Although they are each almost an hour long, I felt some storylines could have been left out to keep the main focus of the season.

Overall, I really did like this season and enjoyed that Morticia and Gomez, played by Luis Guzman, are in it more compared to last season. The ending did feel a bit rushed, but I did enjoy it nonetheless, and it did set up for the third season which is unknown currently of when that would come out. I am excited for the next season and to see these characters and this world again!
