Strength Beyond the Classroom: An Alternative To Relax

When it comes to higher education there should never be a choice between Brawn or Brains.

Hectic class schedules and the city’s bustling life, Yasmine Awad spends her spare time burning off the stress. As a student at CSI, Awad’s schedule is busy, keeping herself rooted by finding solace in maintaining her health—a passion of hers.

“A hobby I have right now is going to the gym,” said Awad. “I take it pretty seriously.”

Gym workouts are rigorous and provide a great way of getting not only the body but mind to relax and restart. Exercising is a means to stay in shape and a safe space for Awad to unwind from the stress of the day–an important aspect for Awad.

Favoring leg workouts as they provide a moment for her to think clearly throughout her sets and recall moments of her day, Awad gives strength in a way others ignore. A healthy work-life balance matters to many, especially to a hardworking college student.

“I’m so busy throughout the day with work and classes,” said Awad. “When I go to the gym it’s kind of like where I take care of myself.”

Maintaining a positive work ethic is already difficult, without care and proper rest one can find themselves in an incredibly demanding position.

It is undeniable that mental health and college have a relationship. Physical and mental well-being are vital to how a student can function. Academic performance depends on how a student manages their time. It’s also no secret that during the pandemic, performance for many dwindled. Figuring out how to adapt is hard.

Resilience is key to surviving many situations and Awad’s resilience is something to marvel at. Prioritizing self-care and not only physical health but also mental health, encourages better stress management, improved confidence, and a positive outlook toward academic and personal satisfaction.

As a college student, student life and social events are a major distraction to many students on campus, so a clear balance is key. Knowing when to not go to a party or knowing how far you can stretch yourself.

Awad’s positive outlook on the lifestyle is inspiring, to say the least. College is already hard enough, adding a work schedule makes things busier. To wind down after a tough day is something many students can relate to.

In addition to having a meaningful workout regimen, Awad isn’t as strict with eating. Often good health is paired with detailed diets, planning out each day and every second of what one can eat. Awad isn’t worried about that. Having fun with what she eats is something she greatly enjoys.

“I’m a sucker when it comes to fried foods,” said Awad. “Fries, burgers, pizza, chocolate is a big weakness for me.”

Awad finding the greater joy in the lack of strictness that comes with diets is certainly a relief when it comes down to not overworking. With a joyous personality matched with the brains and the strength, Awad is spectacular at her craft.

Under the weight of it all, Awad is passionate about her future. Pushing herself to clear her head after a long day is amazing. Her dedication is exemplary.

Awad’s tenacity to stick to her planned schedule is another strength that not many can brag about.  Just like in the gym, consistency and drive is key. Coincidentally, these are the same qualities needed to succeed in school and life in general. Awad’s distractions don’t deter her from focusing on working on herself.

Awad’s success in her academic life shows commitment and perseverance matter greatly in the lives of college students. She’s confidently setting up the building blocks of her future, no matter how simple they may seem.
